ECG paper: Reliable results and exact diagnoses when used as directed
An electrocardiogram (ECG) records the electrical activity of all myocardial fibers. Since cardiac muscles change their electrical properties with each heartbeat, electrodes attached to the body (such as on the chest, arms and legs) can be used to measure changes in the body’s voltage.

If these voltage changes are recorded by an ECG, a so-called ECG curve is produced that reflects the cardiac cycle. The typical waveforms, height differences and frequencies that can be interpreted by physicians are created on the ECG paper:

The T-wave shows the relaxation phase of the heart chambers
The QRS complex shows the contraction of the heart chambers
The P-wave shows the contraction of the atria
For optimal analysis, the ECG paper has a well-defined, fine grid. Physicians are able to recognize and interpret the curves without additional aids (such as a magnifying glass or other medical aids). The courses of disease can be reliably documented.

This examination method is completely painless and harmless even when frequently repeated.

Using ECG paper
The ECG is the most commonly performed routine examination method for determining heart conditions. It provides information pertaining to the heart rate, heart rhythm, and electrical activity of cardiac chambers and atria.

An ECG is helpful in diagnosing various cardiovascular diseases and in controlling the courses of disease.

An ECG is usually carried out for the following symptoms:

Pain and pressure in the chest
Changes in heart rhythm or blood pressure
Shortness of breath, sweat outbreaks, and nausea.
The ECG is an integral part of diagnosis whenever there is a suspicion of a heart disorder.

Optionally, an exercise stress ECG or a long-term ECG is carried out in addition to the classic resting ECG to better analyze the current situation.

The ECG does not necessarily provide conclusive evidence of the severity of heart disease (e.g. cardiac insufficiency). Frequently, however, indications of the underlying causes can be found.
